Christmas 2009

We first went to my parents house for a week. We went to this nearby goat farm and had some goat milk and cheese. Sam loved a cat that was missing a leg. The goats are in mating season and Brianna commented that they were playing games getting on top of each other. There are about 500 goats at this farm.
Here are the kids making gingerbread men.
Here is our Christmas picture after mass Christmas Eve.

Here are some pictures of the get together at my parents. I am the oldest of 5 so my sister Jenny, her husband Eric, and her 2 kids; my brother Chris and his wife Samantha; my brother Joey and his wife Crystal; and my brother Timmy and his girlfriend Lauren were all there for a long weekend. How nice to have us all there together, a rare treat. Heath and I have the best families and we are so lucky everyone gets along and loves each other.

Here are the kids on Christmas morning. They all said they wanted to eat cereal before opening presents. I asked Brianna if she was sure she didn't want to open a present first and she said, no we're hungry. They didn't get up until 8:30. They only ate 1 bowl a piece instead of their usual 3 or 4. The kids each got 3 presents from Santa. They opened all of them and Brianna had only gotten 2 and had not gotten her bike she needed. She said, "I only got 2, I guess I'll get a bike for my birthday." She went on playing for a few hours before we said, "Brianna, what does the paper under the tree say?" She read that it was a note from Santa saying she had another present hidden somewhere in the house and found her bike in the laundry room. The kids were very excited about what each other got and not jealous or anything yet. Maybe those days are still to come, but it made Christmas so fun this year.

This is the girls in the Christmas program at one of the Children's masses Christmas Eve. It was so cute! I just love our church.

Here is Brianna playing with some things from a goodie bag a neighbor brought them. Have I told you we have the best neighbors? One even gave us bunkbeds they rarely used and we desperately needed.

My dad made this beautiful doll house for the girls for Christmas. He didn't use a plan and made it one of a kind.

Gingerbread and Kate's finger

Here are some pictures of the kids making gingerbread houses with our wonderful neighbor. She bought a gingerbread house village with 5 houses. We made some people today to go with the houses and I will do another post with that later. We have been baking a lot this week.
Below is a picture of Katelyn's finger a week after her incident with the blinds. Our doctor neighbor was kind enough to come look at it and Heath took her to urgent care that evening when it was still dripping blood after 6 hours. Glad all he had to do was put on a pressure bandage for 24 hours. Her swelling has gone down and fingers look fine now.

Advent 2009

Some St. Nicholas cookies secretly left in our mailbox. St. Nick's feast day is December 6th. St. Nick was a bishop who secretly left money or things for people in need. Frequently in their shoes. He looks a lot like Santa which is where we get the tradition. The 2 traditions of St. Nick and Jesus birthday have been merged. St. Nick did leave some goodies in the kids shoes this year. Candy canes and coins.

Leah loves the talking bear and singing snowmen this year. They are her favorite so far and she keeps hugging them and sticking her finger in the bear's mouth. We went to get our pictures taken with Santa and Sam kept making the face seen in the above picture. He thinks he is smiling. The lady taking the picture kept telling him to relax his smile and she said it so many times he started crying.

Here are the before and after pictures of our tree. It is a little bear this year and somehow all the ornaments are making their way upstairs.
