Halloween 2014

Here are a few pictures of our Halloween Weekend.  Sam tried on our Darth Vader costume to let his cousin borrow.  We went Trick-or-Treating with my sister in her neighborhood since a visit with her was way overdue.  We couldn't stay long since we had to get back for Leah's soccer game but the kids enjoyed some cousin time.

My sister allowed the girls to come to the Vet. Clinic where she works because we are studying biology this year and I wanted them to get some real life experience.  They were very impressed.  She showed them heart worms, tape worms, yeast in a microscope, x-rays, and then let them watch her put a cast on a cat's leg.  It was very cool and tied in a lot of things they had learned that year.  They came home and played Vet. Clinic for days.

They each had a name tag, made collars for cats and made their vet clinic under our porch.

Here is the pumpkin they took turns carving this year.
And the pumpkin decorations Alex's godparents sent him.
Here is our cat Julio on the right and the neighbor's cat on the left.  The black cat in the other picture is our neighbor's cat but won't allow the kitten below to get anywhere near their house so it lives and eats with our cat, who likes it.
Leah's last soccer game was the day after Halloween so here she is in a few action shots.  It was VERY cold!!

Here is some more costume play!

May - catch up

Kate celebrated her 9th birthday at the end of May.
We went to the Chattanooga Zoo with Heath's family.  His sister got us a family pass for the year and the kids loved it.  Chattanooga is a great city and the zoo is really neat.  Thanks Melissa!

We celebrated Grandma's 60th at the lake.
Sam celebrated his 1st communion in May.

Sam played another season of baseball this year.  Last year they were league champions, this year, not so much.  They only won one game.  He still had fun though!

Blogging has been almost impossible for me lately but I am trying to at least put a few pictures in!! I want to remember some of the cute things the kids said or did too.  Alex asked Grandpa if he had ever seen a dinosaur (completely serious face).  To which Grandpa replied, "a real one?" and Alex said, "yeah."  Guess we need some dinosaur lessons.  Leah asked me if her top two teeth were her big teeth and thinking she meant the biggest in her mouth, I said, yes.  Then she said they were wiggly and asked if we could get her some of those Halloween teeth to wear.  She was asking if those were her adult teeth and though they would be falling out and not coming back.  Poor thing!

Brianna's American Girl 10th Birthday!

Brianna's party started with a spend the night.  Two girls spent the night and they had a great time.   Then when the party started the next day, the first thing they did was decorate jars.  This was Molly's stain glass jars activity from Molly's Activity Book.  We decorated with tissue paper, added a candle, and then put an American Girl sticker on the jar.
Then everyone ate American Girl themed foods like Molly's Victory Garden Platter, Josefina's Chips and salsa, Emily's fruit kebabs, and Samantha's Tea Sandwiches.

We had Felicity's Hoop and Stick Game but they mostly just Hoola Hooped.

We made a pinata which was quite the challenge.  Brianna requested flower shaped.  So we made a balloon pinata, then lots of smaller balloon pinatas, and then attempted to paper mache them all together while the whole thing was still wet.  I know from experience that if you wait until it is dry and re-wet it, the balloon has shrunk and the whole thing looks like a shriveled mess.  So anyway, she carefully decorated the pinata with American Girl stickers and even wanted to match the colors of tissue paper to the girls.  It was Josefina's pinata so she was in the middle.  Molly was red, white, and blue.  Julie was on ivy tissue paper which is her friends name in the books, etc.

We did a twist on a pinata this year because I hate how one kid cries because they didn't get enough when we go to pinata birthday parties.  We put goodie bags inside the pinata with the girls names on the bags and they had to find theirs when it broke.  We also had jewelry sets inside so each person could get a necklace making kit to do next.  We bought the rub on jewelry set from Michaels.

Brianna, like myself, is not a fan of cake so she wanted brownies and ice cream sundaes.  She really wanted the Hello Kitty candle set which didn't fit with her Hello Kitty theme but she loves Hello Kitty as well.

Then present time and play time.  We are lucky to have the nicest friends with the nicest kids.  It was stress free and fun with very polite and kind girls.
